Building Science Principles
This class is designed for new entrants to the energy efficiency industry, as well as industry support personnel. It is the starting point for the professional certifications, providing an overview of Building Science and energy efficiency, residential construction and mechanical systems. Participants challenge a 100-question online test to earn a Building Science Principles Certificate of Knowledge.
Learning Objectives:
- Obtain a working knowledge of the elements of residential construction
- Understand the basic science behind energy, heat, air and moisture
- Review the major opportunities for energy conservation
- Review the tools and techniques for upgrading homes
- Understand heating, cooling and hot water systems and their components
Course Style: Online with companion guide and practice exercises.
Duration: 1-day webinar on the GoTo Meeting platform.

- Conduct 8 hours of live webinar covering all material contained in the Guide.
- Provide a 1-hour “office hours” Q&A follow-up webinar for student support.
- Provide supplemental materials and review quizzes.
- Provide each student with a test code for the 100-question certifying exam.
